In 1492 the Alhambra Decree in Spain enhanced the persecution
of the Jews in Spain and Portugal. Some Jews were forced to convert to Christianity, while others emigrated. Over the years,
these people emigrated to other lands, forming a mini-diaspora of their own. Thus, some of the communities below have some ties to Marranos descendants, but not
limited to the Iberian peninsula.
